A survey course of Nineteenth Century European Painting. Twenty lectures with ~20 hours of instruction in a pre-recorded seminar based format. These lessons are taken from the Classical Ideals Art Club that ran over the summer of 2022.
Each high quality lesson begins with a brief biography of the artist but continues to unravel how the social and political forces of the Belle époque and the Industrial Revolution shaped the art that was created during this time period.
We cover a range of styles and each painting delves not only into the history behind it, but a detailed lesson on how to read and understand the artwork. Many of the artists covered here have never been written or talked about by the mainstream salon so this course includes original scholarship.
Learn what a normal art history course would never teach. Learn about artists that are never covered by modern society. Learn not just art history, but how to read great art in the context of modernity.
